Remote Play Macbook



Used to remote play on my vita, use my wife's win10 laptop occasionally, have remote played on my work surface, but by far the best way to remote play I've found is the Macbook. I often keep remote play windowed, and have a little Netflix window in the corner, or Spotify in the background and remote play doesn't give a fuck about multi tasking. Sony on Wednesday released a firmware update for its PlayStation 4 console, introducing a long-awaited Remote Play feature that lets gamers use their PC or Mac as a second screen device. Get started

Make sure that your devices meet the requirements for using AirPlay. To use Siri to play and control video from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, add your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV to the Home app and assign it to a room.

Stream video from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Connect your device to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  2. Find the video that you want to stream.
  3. Tap . In some third-party apps, you might need to tap a different icon first.* In the Photos app, tap , then tap .
  4. Choose your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV. Need help?

To stop streaming, tap in the app that you're streaming from, then tap your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from the list.

*Some video apps might not support AirPlay. If you can’t use AirPlay with a video app, check the App Store for tvOS to see if that app is available on Apple TV.

If video automatically streams to an AirPlay device

Your device might automatically stream video to the Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV that you frequently use. If you open a video app and see in the upper-left corner, then an AirPlay device is already selected.

To use AirPlay with a different device, tap, then tap another device, or tap 'iPhone' to stop streaming with AirPlay.

Stream video from your Mac

  1. Connect your Mac to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  2. On your Mac, open the app or website that you want to stream video from.
  3. In the video playback controls, click .
  4. Select your Apple TV or smart TV. Need help?

To stop streaming video, click in the video playback controls, then choose Turn Off AirPlay.

Mirror your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Use Screen Mirroring to see the entire screen of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  2. Open Control Center:
    • On iPhone X or later or iPad with iPadOS 13 or later: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
    • On iPhone 8 or earlier or iOS 11 or earlier: Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  3. Tap Screen Mirroring.
  4. Select your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV from the list. Need help?
  5. If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen, enter the passcode on your iOS or iPadOS device.

Your TV uses your iOS or iPadOS device's screen orientation and aspect ratio. To fill your TV screen with the mirrored device screen, change your TV's aspect ratio or zoom settings.

To stop mirroring your iOS or iPadOS device, open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, then tap Stop Mirroring. Or press the Menu button on your Apple TV Remote.

Mirror or extend your Mac display

With Apple TV or an AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV, you can mirror the entire display of your Mac to your TV or use your TV as a separate display.

  1. Connect your Mac to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV.
  2. On your Mac, click in the menu bar at the top of your screen. If you don't see , go to Apple  menu > System Preferences > Displays, then select 'Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available.'
  3. Choose your Apple TV or AirPlay 2-compatible smart TV. Need help?
  4. If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen, enter the passcode on your Mac.

To change the size of your desktop mirrored on your TV, click in the menu bar. Then select Mirror Built-in Display to match the size of your desktop or Mirror Apple TV to match the size of your TV.

AirPlay also lets you use your TV as a separate display for your Mac. Just click in the menu bar, then select Use As Separate Display.

To stop mirroring or using your TV as a separate display, click in the menu bar, then choose Turn AirPlay Off. Or press the Menu button on your Apple TV Remote.

    Always update your PS5 console to the latest version of the system software.
  • An account for PlayStation™Network
    Use the same account that you use for your PS5 console. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one first.
  • High-speed internet connection
    As a standard, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 5 Mbps. For best performance, we recommend a high-speed connection with upload and download speeds of at least 15 Mbps.
  • Wireless controller for the PS5 console
  • USB cable
    Connect your Mac and your controller with a USB cable.
  • You can also use a DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller. Connect the controller to your Mac using Bluetooth® or a USB cable. For details on Bluetooth® pairing, see “Using the DUALSHOCK®4 wireless controller on another device”.
  • To use voice chat, you’ll need a microphone, such as the built-in microphone on your Mac.

Install the app

You’ll only need to do these steps the first time you use the app. You can use the same app to connect to your PS5 console and PS4 console.

Download [PS Remote Play] and save it to your desktop or other location.
Read the “SIE application end user license agreement” as well as “Privacy policy”. When you select the checkbox, the download button will become available.

Run the installation file, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the app.

Set up your PS5 console

Set up your PS5 console in the following ways. You’ll only need to do this the first time you use Remote Play:

  • From the home screen, select [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play], and then turn on [Enable Remote Play].
  • To start Remote Play while your PS5 console is in rest mode, select [Settings] > [System] > [Power Saving] > [Features Available in Rest Mode]. Then turn on [Stay Connected to the Internet] and [Enable Turning on PS5 from Network].

Start Remote Play

You’ll take the following steps each time you connect to your PS5 console from your Mac.

Turn on your PS5 console or put it into rest mode.

Use a USB cable to connect your controller to your Mac.
3.
Launch [PS Remote Play] on your Mac, and then select [Sign In to PSN].

Sign in with the same account that you use for your PS5 console.
When you select [Settings], you can configure video quality settings for Remote Play such as resolution and frame rate.

Select [PS5].
The app searches for the PS5 console that you’ve signed in to using your account, and then connects to the console automatically. After it connects, the screen of your PS5 console displays on your Mac and you can start using Remote Play. If multiple PS5 consoles are found, select the console that you’d like to use.
From the second time onwards, you’ll be able to select the console that you connected to previously.
  • If it’s been more than 60 days since you last logged into your PS5 console, you won’t be able to connect to it. Before trying to connect remotely from outside your home, check that your device connects properly while you are near your PS5 console.
  • If the app can’t find the device that you’d like to connect, or if you can’t use Remote Play, see “When Remote Play is not available”.

Remote Play controls

Besides using your controller, you can also control your PS5 console with the control panel.
During Remote Play, if you move the mouse cursor of your Mac over the screen that you’re using for Remote Play, the control panel displays:

  • Create button
    Perform the same functions as the controller’s (create) button.
  • PS button
    Display the control center of your PS5 console.
  • Options button
    Perform the same functions as the controller’s (options) button.
  • Microphone status
    Select [Mic on] / [Mic off] to turn the microphone on or off.

  • Battery level
    You can check your controller’s battery level.

Quit Remote Play

Click the at the top left corner of the screen you’re using for Remote Play.
You’ll see a message that says “This Remote Play session will be disconnected”.
To quit Remote Play while your PS5 console is in rest mode, select the checkbox for [Put the connected console in rest mode].

Select [OK].
Remote Play quits and the screen returns to its original state before your Mac was connected to your PS5 console.

To uninstall [PS Remote Play], drag [PS Remote Play] from your Applications folder and into the trash. Then, go to Finder and select [Empty trash]. Folder and command names might vary depending on your OS version.
